The TGV Sud-Est was the first TGV train introduced on France's LGV South-Est line (Paris-Lyon), Europe's first high-speed rail line. After operating on conventional lines before the line's opening, it began operation at a maximum speed of 260 km/h with the line's opening in 1981. Two years later, with the extension of the line, the maximum speed was increased to 270 km/h. This surpassed the maximum operating speed of Japan's Shinkansen at the time, attracting attention as the world's fastest train. After various updates to both the line and the trains, the maximum speed increased to 300 km/h, and it continued to operate for a long time. Even now that the actual trains have been retired, the original orange livery remains very popular.
KATO will be releasing a renewed version of the orange "first-generation TGV" TGV Sud-Est, which was the first European-type train model produced by KATO, to current standards. In addition to newly reproducing the unique shape of the AC pantograph, it is also possible to operate two trains coupled together, just like the actual trains. It's great for driving in combination with other TGV series trains, and it's also highly recommended as a collector's item.
Main Features
- Reproduces the appearance of the trains from the mid-1980s, before the intermediate cars were fitted with air-spring bogies and the SNCF mark on the front was painted orange.
- Reproduces the coupler cover with the "SNCF" lettering on the front and the distinctive front shape from the front window to the roof.
- Newly created AC pantograph (rear side) with a complex shape.
- Beautifully reproduces the train set's unique nickname illustration with printing (84 series... "DIEPPE", 08 series... "ROUEN").
- Equipped with a GM-5 motor with flywheel.
- Headlights/taillights illuminate (using warm white LEDs). Includes a dummy circuit board to enable head/tail light deactivation when coupled.
- By removing the coupler cover on the front of the locomotive and using the included drawbar, it is possible to recreate a 20-car train just like the real thing.
- DCC compatible (6-pin socket compatible with M1 and M2. However, it is necessary to change the setting of the CV29 value of the decoder installed in M2 to reverse the control of the headlights/taillights).
Optional accessories (sold separately)
- LED Interior Light (Clear) Part Number: 11-211
- LED Interior Lights (Clear) (Set for 6 cars) Part Number: 11-212
