The VT18.16 was an express diesel multiple unit manufactured by the East German State Railways (DR) in the 1960s as a symbol of the country's prestige. Each of the two leading cars was equipped with a 900 horsepower (1000 horsepower for mass-produced models) engine, boasting a total output of 1,800 horsepower (2,000 horsepower for mass-produced models) and a top speed of 160 km/h. It was named VT18.16, a combination of the German word for diesel multiple unit, "Verbrennungistriebwagen". After a change in naming conventions, it was named BR175 and operated in formations of 4 to 6 cars on international trains. It is particularly famous for its service on the "Windbona" service connecting Berlin and Vienna (Austria), and has become synonymous with this type of train. After its retirement, the train cars were preserved in various parts of Germany, and one of them is currently being restored by a preservation group with the aim of returning it to operational service as an international train in 2025.
Main Features
● The 6-car set beautifully reproduces the ivory and red livery from its active service days after being renamed BR175 in the 1970s.
● The 4-car set reproduces the formation used for the revival operation. The livery with black and blue stripes at the bottom is beautifully reproduced.
● Characteristic details such as the streamlined front shape and the four round windows lined up are reproduced.
● Diaphragm couplers are used for the intermediate couplings. Dummy couplers are used at the front of the leading cars.
● Headlights and taillights illuminate (using warm white LEDs).
● Various markings are printed.
● The 4-car set comes in a special sleeve package.
